About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer, based either in our New York office or working remotely from the US East Coast. You will join the Query Engine team, in charge of advancing the art and science of transforming customer data into insights. You will expand the available query capabilities and evolve the data model underneath the products, all while ensuring the performance offers a first-class customer experience.
What you will do
- Engineering and Development: Design, develop and manage back-end components and APIs using Node.js and Typescript, pushing our microservices architecture forward to support large-scale data and low-latency needs. Explore and analyse the performance of the analytics database, suggesting and executing improvements that keep latency and scalability in line with the company targets. Drive improvements across the entire backend and data stacks, with a strong product-performance mindset.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with agile, cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers and designers. Enable Application teams to build cutting-edge capabilities with outstanding experience and performance. Collaborate with data generation, ingestion and aggregation to set the foundations for a robust, but flexible unified data pipeline. Provide focused support for the domain, reacting and addressing customer needs both internally and externally.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Position available for Backend or data engineers in the early stages of their career. Requires a robust foundation in backend development, particularly concerning data-intensive systems and the creation of clean, reliable and well-structured APIs.
- Proficiency in SQL is essential, emphasizing performance and optimization. Prior experience with SingleStore, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or Databricks is advantageous.
- The existing technology stack employs TypeScript and Node.js; however, knowledge of alternative languages is also considered favorably.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes within production contexts is necessary.
- Recent graduates demonstrating substantial internship experience or project involvement are encouraged to apply.
Curiosity
Highly motivated and engaged individual with a strong curiosity for learning and growth, both within their current responsibilities and beyond. Strong interest in keeping up with the latest in web technologies, architecture patterns, and platform performance. You actively share learnings, promote tech excellence, and contribute to the team’s growth through knowledge-sharing and mentoring.
Product mindset
Understand the users' needs deeply and align engineering efforts with business goals. Make decisions based on customer value and focus on delivering features that truly solve problems. Ensures that development is not just about coding but also about creating a meaningful and impactful product.
Great communicator
Excellent English fluency with clear and articulate communication skills is required. The ability to simplify complex concepts and effectively address both technical and non-technical audiences is essential, as is comfort with public speaking engagements. Possessing strong written communication skills is crucial. This involves crafting clear and well-structured content that effectively conveys a compelling and coherent narrative. A key aspect of this skill is the ability to discern the appropriate level of detail, knowing when a thorough, in-depth explanation is necessary and when a more general overview suffices.
Collaboration
Proven experience collaborating effectively within cross-functional, agile teams of moderate size. Proficient in engaging with Product and technical stakeholders. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement. Assumes ownership of both personal work and team deliverables. Appreciates transparency, constructive feedback, and a cooperative environment, and actively contributes to its development.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Scala, Go, or Python in production environments.
- Experience with ClickHouse or other columnar databases for high-volume analytics.
- Contributions to open-source projects, tech talks, or engineering blogs.
